Creating my short story

I would say I’m really interested in writing a story that shows the daily life of someone going through some type of mental illness and as they grow up something goes wrong and they pretty much go insane and start killing people. This would be in the genre of like suspense and horror? I also want to make the language sort of modern to throw some comedy into it as well because I think that the readers will connect to it more. I want to go for dark humor but not go too far to where I’m making fun of the illness itself.

This is important to me because I feel like we as a generation have found dark humor as a way to cope with our trauma but I want to show what can truly happen to someone who is unable to face it.

I’m not sure about the characters yet but I do know that I want them to be teens/young adults. Being a young adult myself and living in my generation I think I will have a lot to say. With that said, it will be set in the future from the present. It won’t be too in the future but I would say somewhere around 2030. The setting will start out pretty normal but then as time goes on and the character deteriorates, so will the setting.

The main message I want to convey with this short story is that it’s okay to use humor as a coping mechanism to a certain extent. One day, if one doesn't truly face their trauma, it can come back to haunt them in a real way.
